CROP Radio Premiere: Henzo - Poems [Live]

Back in July we hosted Henzo's debut live set in Stage & Radio's intimate basement. Premiering last month, the Heathens boss brought his signature amalgamation of mutated dancehall, dubstep and techno to the booth, with an unpredictable, experimental flourish.

Building from a 5 minute cacophony of drones and itchy textures—straight out of Silent Hill—Henzo ramps up the pressure, before laying down a barrage of drum-spattered experimentation. Electric high-end textures frolic above the thrum of hollowed-out midrange tones and quivering subs, occasionally interspersed by ghostly, dubbed-out vocal chops and ever-so-pleasing rhythmic switch-ups.

Sparked from a pile of half-finished products and some encouragement from Korzi, plus an eBay-acquired bargain Launchpad Mini, the live set was a couple of months in the pipeline.

Speaking on the project, Henzo describes it as a Lego brick assortment, arranged into something both cohesive and open to off-the-cuff improvisation, utilising the four channels and onboard FX of a DJM mixer to full effect.

Since his live debut, the Preston-born tastemaker has been exploring the realms of an AV set, with similar improvisation, so keep an eye out for an audio-visual Henzo show coming to a club near you.
