For the third episode of SEEDS, we caught up with a DJ, promoter, and curator who is reshaping the Manchester music scene with her fearless approach to blending sounds and her unwavering commitment to championing underrepresented artists. Gracie T, co-founder of The Beatriarchy—a platform empowering diverse voices in music and DJing—is a rising star who brings boundless energy and purpose to every set.

SEEDS is our ongoing series spotlighting the artists, DJs, producers, and musicians who make Manchester’s music scene so unique. In each episode, we delve into their personal journeys—exploring the influences, pivotal moments, and creative sparks that have propelled them forward. Through SEEDS, we celebrate the sounds and stories that continue to define this vibrant city.

Gracie T’s journey is one of pure passion and self-determination. Her love of music started young—she was drumming by the age of 8, a skill that laid the foundation for her rhythmic prowess behind the decks. Her DJing story, however, took flight in Sheffield’s house party scene, where the city’s DIY spirit and a shortage of DJs in her friendship circle sparked her to take matters into her own hands. Teaching herself to DJ in just three weeks, she debuted in 2019 at the legendary Night Kitchen, delivering an unforgettable set that crammed 60 tracks into 60 minutes—jumping seamlessly between dancehall, grime, and everything in between.

Born to a half-Sri Lankan Tamil background, Gracie T draws deep inspiration from her roots. Her musical exploration acts as both homage and discovery, weaving the sounds of her heritage into her sets. She cites artists like Ahadadream and Manara as major influences on her journey of cultural reconnection through music.
In the video, Gracie shares another pivotal moment of inspiration: a set by Manchester DJ and producer Anz at Hatch in Sheffield. The pair connected at an afterparty that drifted into the early hours, leaving a lasting mark on Gracie’s path as a DJ and artist.
Gracie’s story highlights the importance of creating space for underrepresented voices, both on and off the decks. Through The Beatriarchy, she’s not only breaking down barriers but also building a gateway for others to step into the world of music and DJing.

Filmed across Manchester, the accompanying video showcases the locations and moments that have shaped her journey, from intimate house parties to electrifying gigs. Gracie T’s story is one of innovation, resilience, and an unrelenting drive to shake up the scene.
Stay tuned for more SEEDS episodes as we continue to shine a light on the residents, collectives, and creators planting their roots in Manchester’s ever-evolving musical landscape.
